December 11, 2018The fifth day of competition at the 2018 IRHA/IRHBA/NRHA Futurity determined the Euro 390.000-added 3-year-old Open Futurity finalists.
Even with a score of 222 points, as first to work in the 21-horse NCHA Open Futurity Finals, Crey Zee and Tatum Rice were plenty vulnerable. Last year’s winning score was 228 points, marked by Austin Shepard and Dual Reyish. And the last time a score of 222 won the event was in 2008, when Metallic Cat and Beau Galyean claimed the championship. Both Shepard and Galyean, as well as three other past NCHA Futurity champions were in Sunday’s Finals, as well.

An unparalleled era of rodeo excellence will end at this year’s Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, as King of the Cowboys Trevor Brazile closes the book on full-time professional rodeo competition. Though we have not seen the last of the winningest cowboy of all time, the 23-time Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association world champion will no longer compete at an NFR-qualifying pace. Brazile’s rodeo schedule will be greatly reduced in 2019. With some of the new, big-money opportunities available in rodeo today, anything is mathematically possible. But the NFR will no longer be his focus.
