$780.000-Added IRHA/IRHBA/NRHA Futurity: Cortesi Wins and Unofficially Surpasses the NRHA Million Dollar Rider Mark

November 17, 2024

Cremona, November 16 — The 3-year-old Open Futurity Finals marked the conclusion of the 39th edition of the $780,000-Added IRHA/IRHBA/NRHA Futurity, held in Cremona, Italy. A packed arena of reining fans cheered on the Open Finalists, who rewarded them with electrifying performances that kept everyone on the edge of their seats. The night culminated with Manuel Cortesi clinching the Level (L)4 Championship and unofficially surpassing the NRHA Million Dollar Rider milestone.

Level 4
Entering the arena as the last rider in the seeded Open Finals, Cortesi had a score of 225.5 to beat, set by Lukasz Czechowicz aboard CSG Berlin. Riding MC Millenium Falcon (Maytheforcebewhizyou x RS Shadow Olena), a stallion owned by Stefano Scotti and bred by Alberto Capello, Cortesi delivered an extraordinary performance. The judges’ verdict was clear—a 226.5 on the scoreboard secured the Championship on home soil.

“The magnitude of this achievement is incredible: winning the Futurity on a horse we raised and trained, and sold to a client who believed in me, while also [unofficially] reaching Million Dollar Rider status all in one night… it’s beyond words,” said an elated Cortesi, who has been on a winning streak for the past three years. “I’m thrilled with this result.”

The IRHBA Breeder award went to Alberto Capello's Tenuta Equitem.

Reserve honors went to Lukasz Czechowicz riding a gelding by NRHA Two Million Dollar Sire Colonels Shining Gun out of Dream N Nicki. Owned by Dor Cohen and bred by Katarzyna Roleska, the pair delivered a stellar performance. “It’s been an emotional week; getting here takes immense effort, and this horse was phenomenal,” said the Polish professional. “The Saturday night final is always special; it’s the result of two years of preparation with the dream of winning the title. I’m so happy for Manuel—he’s amazing and inspires us all to aim higher. Now it’s back to hard work and preparing for next year.”

Level 3
Giuseppe Prevosti placed three horses in the L4 Open Finals and went on to claim the L3 title with GH Dreamed Colonel (NRHA Two Million Dollar Sire Colonels Shining Gun x Jessies Lil Dreamer), a stallion owned by Andrea Pedrotti and bred by Vittorio Rabboni. The pair scored an impressive 221.5. Prevosti also secured Reserve honors with a score of 218 aboard Dreamin To Spook (NRHA Twelve Million Dollar Sire Magnum Chic Dream x Spooks O Lena), a stallion owned and bred by Ambrosini Q.H.

“Reaching the Level 4 Finals with all three horses was already a significant achievement, but finishing first and second in Level 3 made it even more special,” Prevosti said. “Each horse performed exceptionally well. GH Dreamed Colonel has been outstanding since I got him, while Dreamin To Spook is still green but shows immense promise for the future.”

Level 2
Giovanni Zucchi claimed the L2 Championship aboard his own GZ Be Like Steady, a stallion by NRHA Million Dollar Sire In Like Flinn out of San Olena Broc, whom he bred and trained himself. Scoring a 217, Zucchi expressed his joy: “This result is particularly meaningful because he’s the first foal of a mare who brought me so much satisfaction. We didn’t expect him to make it to the Futurity on time, but his potential became evident during training. I’m grateful to my team and everyone who supported me along the way.”

Reserve honors went to Alois Kompatscher and SG Lopez Spook (NRHA Nine Million Dollar Sire Spooks Gotta Whiz x Frozen Spark), a mare owned by Diana Metrangolo and bred by Andrea Bianchini.

Level 1
Francesca Fino delivered an unforgettable performance to secure the L1 Championship with BH Mattolina Gun (NRHA Two Million Dollar Sire Colonels Shining Gun x Capitano Mattolina), a mare owned by Ambrosini Q.H. and bred by Bosin Hubert. Scoring a 214, Fino said: “I’m speechless. This victory is incredibly meaningful, and I owe it all to the Ambrosini family and [NRHA Professional] Giuseppe Prevosti for trusting me with this opportunity. I’ve only been riding this mare for a couple of months, but we clicked immediately. These 10 days in Cremona have been filled with highs and lows, but it’s been a truly amazing experience.”

The Reserve Championship went to Aljaz Urhiha riding Vintage R Faces (NRHA Four Million Dollar Sire Pale Face Dunnit x Baby Vintage), a mare bred by Soc. Guida Q.H., scoring a 210.5.
