On a special homegrown horse, Gina Schumacher became the 100X Non Pro Stakes Level 4 Champion at the 100X Reining Classic in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Riding CS Nifty Sailor, Schumacher scored an impressive 222.5 to win the Level 4 title as well as the Novice Horse title, adding an additional $105,557 to her lifetime earnings as well as the custom-made MS Diamonds TX Championship ring!

CS Nifty Sailor was bred and is owned by XCS Ranch. The colt is by Gotta Nifty Gun, a stallion that Schumacher previously rode, and out of La Bigia Sailor, a mare previously ridden by Schumacher’s mother.


“I think he has some really big heart and a really good mind,” Schumacher said about the 2019 stallion. “He wants to please. But the apples after the run do help him to do the right job.”


Schumacher plans to give CS Nifty Sailor a few months off to play in the pasture before beginning work for next year’s NRHA Derby. She said while sometimes reining may look like a one woman show, she is thankful to her entire team for standing behind her and making the success possible.

Madison Steed & Prince Inferno
100X Stakes Non Pro Level 3 Champions

Madison Steed and Prince Inferno, by NRHA Million Dollar Sire Inferno 66 out of A Indian Princess, took the 100X Non Pro Stakes Level 3 Championship at the 100X Reining Classic. They scored a 216.5 which earned them a $43,750 paycheck and Steed did it wearing a black shirt, intricately embroidered and jeweled in pink by her mother. Steed also won the MS Diamonds TX Championship ring.


“She calls herself a lawn chair rider,” Steed said of her mother. “She watches what looks good in the show pen and what colors pop, so this was one that we came up with. I’ve shown in it a few times, and I guess I’ll call it my lucky shirt now.”


Despite his intimidating name, Steed calls Prince Inferno a “puppy dog” because “he’ll lick you for hours,” she said. “He has a lot of character, but he’s very, very soft and sweet and doesn’t want to be in trouble. He’s a lot of fun.”


As for why reining is so near and dear to her, Steed shared, “I don’t think I could really put it into words other than it’s just a feeling. It’s a feeling that we all have when we show or ride a great horse that we like and get along with. There’s really no replacement for it when it goes how you want it to.”

Dani Latimer & Ruff Gunner
100X Stakes Non Pro Level 2 & 1 Champions

With a run that earned her a score of 216, Dani Latimer and Ruff Gunner took home the titles of the 100X Non Pro Stakes Level 1 and Level 2 Champion.


Originally intended to be her mom’s horse, Latimer secured permission to continue to ride the 2019 gelding after placing in the finals with him at the NRHA Futurity last year. Ruff Gunner is by NRHA Million Dollar Sire Not Ruf At All and out of My Gunner Enterprise, and was bred by Vaughn Zimmerman.


“We had a game plan going in on this horse and knew what we were looking for and what we wanted,” said Latimer. “I knew that if I went in and showed smart, then he would do his part. He ran and stopped, turned good and circled good, so he was good everywhere.”


While all of Latimer’s runs in the Ford Arena during the 100X Reining Classic have had excellent payouts, her earnings of $63,132 in the 100X Non Pro Stakes more than doubled her lifetime earnings. The young rider also took home two MS Diamonds TX Championship rings!
Latimer thanked her parents, particularly her mom, for the opportunity to show the gelding. She also thanked Mirko Midili, who she has been training with, for helping her get so prepared for being in the pen.

Jack Medows & Fire N Rein
Lawrence Ranch Non Pro Mare Bonus Winners
222.5 | $42,000
Jack Medows and Fire N Rein, known around the barn as ‘Pepper,’ took reserve in the Non Pro Stakes Level 4 and topped the Lawrence Ranch Non Pro Stakes Mare Bonus for a total payday of $42,000. Medows scored a 220.5 which held the lead from draw 16, all the way to the second-to-last set when Gina-Maria Schumacher beat his score with a 222.5.


Medows and four-year-old ‘Pepper’ already have an impressive show history, including reserve championships at the 2023 National Reining Breeders Classic and National Reining Horse Association Derby. Pepper is a daughter of NRHA Five Million Dollar Sire Spooks Gotta Whiz out of Chicsdreamofdiamonds, a mare Jack also showed. Medows’ and his family raised this mare from a baby, so he’s known her from day one.


“She’s a funny animal. She’s got a lot of personality. But when you get on her back, she just puts her heart out, every single time,” Medows said.


“It’s so special,” Medows said of the Lawrence Ranch Mare Bonus. “It can be tough for mares, going against these studs, but there’s nothing cooler than a good mare. So I think it’s very cool.”
