This past month, the warm Florida sunshine served as icing on the cake during the Florida Reining Classic for Fernando Salgado, National Reining Horse Association’s latest Million Dollar Rider. Salgado laid down fantastic runs aboard Vinny Gun, owned by Guillermo De Anda Martinez, and Bob Reiner, owned by Kristen and Rodion Cantacuzene; both pushed Fernando Salgado over the million dollar total in NRHA lifetime earnings.
In the fall of 2022, Arno Honstetter rode the talented mare Ms Dreamy, owned by Frederick Christen, to finish fifth place at The Run For A Million presented by Teton Ridge. The $60,000 prize – the second largest in the German native’s career, was enough to push him to the precipice of a major milestone – a million dollars in earnings.
The National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) announced the top eight riders invited to The Run For A Million Cow Horse Event from the Teton Ridge Stallion Stakes qualifier.
Out of an 83-horse field, it took a 440 composite score to earn an invitation to the cow horse event, which will be held August 17-20. Nick Dowers riding Santiago Time, for owner Clinton Marshall topped the field with a 444 and secured a check for $8,835.

He and Faith Dry Doc topped the Youth 14–18 class at a Texas Reining Horse Association show, and the scene was set for a career that would take him to the highest levels of reining competition.
This August 17-20, in Las Vegas, Nevada, The Run For A Million turns up the reined cow horse heat to not only include the open Cow Horse Challenge but also showcase the roots of reined cow horse with a Cowboy Invitational.
“The cow horse was a fan-favorite at The Run For A Million in 2021,” said Taylor Sheridan, producer of The Run For A Million. “In 2022 we’ll be doubling down on cow horse, bringing you the very best NRCHA bridle horses and professionals in the Cow Horse Challenge, and some of the best hands from America’s biggest ranches in the Cowboy Invitational.”
With the airing of the December 17, 2021 episode of The Last Cowboy on the Paramount Network, reining fans around the globe were able to watch history be made at The Run For A Million presented by Teton Ridge. Although the event was held August 21, a media embargo meant fans had to wait to learn who the winner was until the final episode of The Last Cowboy aired.
Great Southwest Equestrian Center, Katy, 20 March—When the second section of the Non Pro Classic preliminary round wrapped up Tuesday evening from the elegant Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy, Texas, a competitive field of entries was whittled down to the top-scoring finals qualifiers. Levels 4, 3, 2, 1 and Prime Time Non Pro finalists will return to vie for championships on Friday, April 23 in the Coliseum Arena.
