An exciting day of competition took place today in Cremona, Italy, where the 2023 edition of the Italian Derby is being held. Once the second section of the Euro 67.000-Added IRHA and Euro 67.000-Added IRHA Derby Qualifiers closed with the last horse-rider combination leaving the new CremonaFiere Arena gate behind, Saturday night’s Open finalists were determined.
French Professional based in Germany Arnaud Girinon rode Honey First Gunny (NRHA Thirteen Million Dollar Sire Gunner x ARC Honey Chick), owned by Le Fattorie Di Matilde Srl and bred by Vittorio Rabboni to a 223.5 score topping the first section of the Level (L)4 Open Derby Qualifier. In a field of 149 riding for a ticket to the finals, their score held topping the leaderboard. Following his run yesterday, Girinon shared that the flashy 8-year-old stallion’s first 2023 competition was great and was quick to thank the owners and breeder Vittorio Rabboni for trusting him with his horse.
Francesco Barbagli & Steppin To Anarillo
Aboard Riccardo Abati’s Steppin To Amarillo, a 5-year-old palomino stallion by Steppin On Sparks out of Frosted Wimp Cream, Italy’s Francesco Barbagli performed to a 222 score in the first section to lead the IRHA/IRHBA L3 Open division.
