An Update on Cutting at the 2022 All American Quarter Horse Congress

COLUMBUS, OH – Cutting has been an integral part of the All American Quarter Horse Congress since its inception in 1967. In the beginning, the Congress began as a long weekend show and has grown to span over four weekends in the fall. Since the demands of producing a quality cutting requires so much more time and space than other quarter horse classes, it was decided this year to move it to a nearby location where space and time were not an issue. This move will be more user friendly to the cutters and will allow the cutting to grow at its own pace in the future.

The 2022 Cinch Timed Event Championship is set to take center stage March 10-12 at the world-famous Lazy E Arena. As this year’s Timed Event Titans prepare for battle—five runs in five events, heading, heeling, tie-down roping, steer wrestling and steer roping, in the hallowed red-dirt ground of that massive 160’ by 440’ arena—it’s the perfect time to take true, hard-core cowboy fans inside the belly of the beast that is the Ironman of Pro Rodeo. Oh, and how about announcing the fact that the Jr Ironman champ’s check just doubled while we’re at it?

NRHA Year-end Statistics Reflect Impressive Growth

In recent years, the planet has been in a state of upheaval and change. COVID-19 had a staggering impact. Some marginal businesses thrived and grew. Other long successful companies couldn’t survive and people lost jobs as well as lifelong enterprises.
For the equine industry, facing a pandemic was especially challenging. In early 2020, the National Reining Horse Association Board and Executive Committee scrambled along with the rest of the horse world to make correct decisions – to plan, predict, and survive. Now, with two years of history, the state of the reining industry shows very positive statistics according to the data released during the NRHA Winter Meetings, held Feb. 13-16 in Denton, Texas.

NCHA Announces AQHA Leading Sire and Dam Award Recipients for 2021

The National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) announces Metallic Cat, Junie Wood, and Metallic Rebel as the recipients of the 2021 American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) Leading Sire, Leading Dam, and Leading Freshman Sire awards, respectively.
“The growth our cutting industry has seen over the years is largely due to our stallion owners and breeders,” NCHA Executive Director Jay Winborn said. “Their commitment to developing the next generation of champions will only propel the legacy of the cutting horse into the future.”

2022 Virtual AQHA European Summit

Join AQHA International April 4-9 for a virtual summit dedicated to AQHA members in the European membership region.
 
The AQHA International Department is excited to host the 2022 Virtual AQHA European Summit, which will be supported through Thinkific, an online learning platform. Material will be available for participants to view online at their leisure April 4-8, followed by a live question-and-answer session with summit presenters, including various AQHA leadership representatives and a clinician from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Central on April 9 on Microsoft Teams.

NCHA Announces Hall of Fame Inductees

FORT WORTH – Every year, the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) recognizes the achievements of a select group of individuals and horses by inviting them into the NCHA Hall of Fame. These individuals are inducted into one of the three categories based on their lifetime earnings or accomplishments in the arena: Horse, Non-Pro Riders, and Open Riders.

Missouri Sports Hall of Fame Announces Honorees

AQHA Superhorse Snap Krackle Pop is the first equine athlete to be inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.
 
For the first time in the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame's 28-year history, a horse will be inducted. Snap Krackle Pop, owned by Twylla and Ed Brown of Perry, Missouri, is under the training of AQHA Professional Horsemen Kendra Weis and Blake Weis at Twin Acres Ranch in Moberly, Missouri. Snap Krackle Pop is a two-time AQHA Superhorse, earning the titles in 2015 and 2016 at the AQHA World Championship Show at the OKC Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City.
