The W.T. Waggoner Estate and King Ranch have been breeding American Quarter Horses for 100 years.

The American Quarter Horse Association is proud to recognize two historic Texas ranches that have been breeding American Quarter Horses for 100 consecutive years: W.T. Waggoner Estate and the King Ranch. Even though the Association and its registry were founded in 1940, these two ranches already had horse herds, several of which were inspected and admitted for registration with AQHA.

Horst Geier, Known as “Mr. Americana,” This European Visionary Died the Week of September 16, 2022.

The western riding scene has reacted with great sadness to the death of Horst Geier. The initiator and longtime manager of Americana passed away this week at the age of 79. Horst was one of the great visionaries of European western riding and western horse breeding, who, among other things, made Americana what it is today. "We were saddened to learn of the death of our longtime business partner and companion Horst Geier," said AFAG management. "Our thoughts are with his family and all his friends!"

Team USA Wins 2022 Youth World Games

With solid performances in each class and red ribbons across the board, Team USA successfully defended their title and won the APHA Youth World Games held August 21-25 during the European Paint Horse Championship in Kreuth, Germany.
Nyeah Krasnow-Osorio of Brooklyn, New York; Riley Francis of Richland, Michigan; Abigail Zawisza of Findlay, Ohio; and Cody Dulin of Nampa, Idaho, each placed second in their respective classes, earning Team USA 36 points and the overall win.

APHA Teams With Teton Ridge to Launch the American Performance Horseman Competition

Expanding upon its commitment to elevate and positively impact the Western horse world, Teton Ridge unveiled an unprecedented new event: The American Performance Horseman. The innovative working Western sporting event—which will feature cutting, reining and reined cow horse—will debut on March 10, 2023, in Arlington, Texas, at The American rodeo Western Weekend.

50th Anniversary of the Ford AQHYA World Kicks Off

The Ford AQHYA World Championship Show kicked off for the 50th consecutive year July 28 at the OKC Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City.

The American Quarter Horse Association kicks off the Ford AQHYA World Championship Show, celebrating the show’s 50th anniversary! Classes began with performance halter geldings at 8 a.m. on Thursday, July 28, in the Jim Norick Arena. The Performance Arena started at 11 a.m. with the new Nutrena Level 1 Champion of Champions 14-18 showmanship class. The show runs through Sunday, August 7, at the OKC Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City.
