57 horses were entered in the four levels of the Austrian Reining Horse Association (ARHA) Open Futurity Go rounds for four-year-old horses. In the L4, the top 18 horses advanced to the final, for which a score of at least 212.5 had to be achieved. And the top rides were very close together. Nico Sicuro aboard Dance Wimpy Spook (Wimpys Little Step x Dance Little Spook) and Giovanni Masi de Vargas aboard La La Boom (Remins Remedy X Boomax Rm) took the lead scoring a 217.5 each.
Sicuro, who had already ridden two horses into the 3-year-old Finals the day before (one of which finished second), was the 2020 IRHA Futurity Champion Level (L)4 Open with the exceptional mare Dance Wimpy Spook – the score: 223! Altogether, the 2021 season is going well for the 25-year-old Italian, who is head trainer at Quarter Dream SRL. Among other things, he won the NRHA European Derby Open this year. Sicuro also has a second horse in the finals for Quarter Dream in Voodoo Majestic Gun.
Multiple FEI Gold Medalist and NRHA European Futurity Champion L2 Open Giovanni Masi de Vargas had won the LRHA-IRHA-FISE Pre Futurity Open in 2020 with the gelding La La Boom. 28-year-old Giovanni Masi, who is at home and trains on Alba QH, was Austrian Reining Futurity Co-Champion L4 Open last year.
Three riders followed in third place, just half a point apart: Pierlugi Fabbri with Vittorio Rabboni’s stallion Eli Tomac (Walla Walla Whiz x Ladie Bud), Pavel Orel with his stallion White Shade (Yankee Gun x Shyaning Electric) and Sylvia Rzepka with Zsolt Méder’s Wimpy Walla Whiz (Wimpys Little Step x Memorable Walla Whiz).
FEI World Champion Gennaro Lendi was the only one to ride three horses in L4 Open Final – with top scores: Frozenfromhell (Inferno Sixty Six x Nic Sailor, 216), OT Dont Miss To Wish (Dont Miss My Guns x OT Taris Wish Miss, 215.5) and OT Taris Yankee (Yankee Gun x OT Tarisme, 215.5).
High Score 218.5 for Jonas Bujnoch & PL Not Trashy
In L3 Open the best 20 horses made it to the final. High score was achieved by Jonas Bujnoch aboard Petr Julina’s PL Not Trashy (Gunnatrashya x Nu Chex Donna): 218.5. The mare bred by Luigi Parise thus leads in L3 as well as L2 and L1. Bujnoch was a 2020 Austrian Futurity finalist and IRHA Futurity Reserve Champion L1 with this mare. Second place was shared by Pierlugi Fabbri with Eli Tomac, Pavel Orel with White Shade and Sylvia Rzepka with Wimpy Walla Whiz. Fifth was Quentin Galliere on Linda Verstappen’s LVR Hero Of Magic (Inferno Sixty Six x Juana Sparkle) who scored a 215.5.
With this, the finalists in L2 and L1 were also determined. Second in L2 was Pavel Orel with White Shade ahead of Quentin Galliere and LVR Hero Of Magic. In 4th place with a 213.5: Dino Lulli aboard Frozen Jessie Oak (Frozen Sailor x Jessie Oak Tari) for Angelucci Quarter Horses. This also meant 2nd place in L1 for Dino Lulli.
Third in L1 was Spain’s June Alustiza Martinez De Rituerto aboard Elisabetta Zoccarato’s Call Me Mr Ghostface (by Paceface Dun It), who scored a 212. Gabriela Wendlinger followed in fourth place with a 211.5 on Jürgen Niederl’s Duninachictinseltown (Hollywoodstinseltown x Chic Olena Shine).
The Top 26 will meet again in the L2 Final, and the Top 14 in the L1 Final.
