The National Reined Cow Horse Association is excited to announce new corporate sponsor Teton Ridge. As part of their sponsorship, the second premier event of the 2022 show season is now the Teton Ridge Stallion Stakes. An event for 4- and 5-year-old reined cow horses annually held in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Stallion Stakes Derby is an event where eligibility to enter is restricted to offspring of stallions enrolled in the NRCHA’s Subscribed Stallion Program. As the owner of NRCHA Breeder Sponsor stallion Smooth Talkin Style (sired by Smooth As A Cat), Teton Ridge is positioned to support this ever-growing event that shines a light on the reined cow horse breeding industry.


This August 17-20, in Las Vegas, Nevada, The Run For A Million turns up the reined cow horse heat to not only include the open Cow Horse Challenge but also showcase the roots of reined cow horse with a Cowboy Invitational.
“The cow horse was a fan-favorite at The Run For A Million in 2021,” said Taylor Sheridan, producer of The Run For A Million. “In 2022 we’ll be doubling down on cow horse, bringing you the very best NRCHA bridle horses and professionals in the Cow Horse Challenge, and some of the best hands from America’s biggest ranches in the Cowboy Invitational.”


It was a banner year for reined cow horses with multiple milestones crossed, at the 2021 National Reined Cow Horse Association Snaffle Bit Futurity®, Clayton Edsall became the newest Million Dollar Rider to join the elite club. At the Snaffle Bit Futurity, presented by Metallic Cat, Edsall made the Open Finals at the event, needing only $5,000 in earnings to push his lifetime total over the mark. He earned $10,000 in the Finals and finished the year with $1,016,157.75. While the cows weren’t cooperative during his Finals run, the in-arena announcement of his milestone had the crowd on their feet in the Will Rogers Coliseum.


The 2021 $4,950-added ERCHA/NRCHA Autumn Show in Travagliato, Italy, concluded the 2021 European Reined Cow Horse show season.67 riders and 80 horses met to compete during the weekend vying for the Autumn Show Championships and Regional Finals awards.


OPEN FUTURITY CHAMPIONS CROWNED
The 2021 National Reined Cow Horse Association Snaffle Bit Futurity® Finals on Saturday, October 23, at the Will Rogers Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas, might go down as the loudest and the most intense in many years. A clear front runner didn’t emerge until the last set of cow work. When Darren Moore called out an incredible judge’s score of 226 for Zak 34 and NRCHA Million Dollar Rider Justin Wright’s fence run, it was clear who was adding Open Snaffle Bit Futurity Champion to his résumé.


In a dizzying ascent to the top of the National Reined Cow Horse Association’s sire earnings list, Metallic Cat now sits at Number One. The red roan stallion’s offspring has cut, reined and gone down the fence to the tune of more than $4,250,000*.
Owned by Bobby Patton’s Rocking P Ranch, based in Patton’s hometown of Weatherford, Texas, the 2005 stallion by High Brow Cat and out of Chers Shadow (by Peptoboonsmal) supported reined cow horse before becoming the presenting sponsor of the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity® in 2019, the year he also was named the NRCHA Sire of the Year. With this newest accolade, Metallic Cat continues to add to a résumé that began when the stallion was showing in the dirt at the Will Rogers Coliseum earning multiple National Cutting Horse Association titles.
Bred by the Roan Rangers and shown by Beau Galyean for then-owners Alvin and Becky Fults’ Fults Ranch, the stallion never lost a cow in the cutting pen and amassed more than $637,000 in lifetime earnings.


Provided by International Horse Press—A week full of ERCHA (European Reined Cow Horse)/NRCHA (National Reined Cow Horse) competition in Augsburg brought the house down! Futurity, Derby, Nations Cup and Bridle Spectacular showcased the sport in from of a full house in the renowned German arena.


The 2021 edition of the AMERICANA, held in Augsburg, Germany, is host of the 2021 ERCHA/NRCHA Futurity and Derby. Following the rein work qualifier which counted an impressive 43 horse-rider-combinations in the Futurity and 20 in the Derby Open, it was a tie between Alfons Hoefkens and Giovanni Campanaro in the Futurity and a tie between the latter and Schopfer in the Derby.


Rubys Radar and Zane Davis Take The Crown
The top 15 riders on the National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) Open rider eligibility list, based on a three-year average, were invited to compete in the $150,000 Teton Ridge Invitational Fence Work Challenge, consisting of rein and herd work. After an exciting evening, Rubys Radar and Zane Davis were crowned the Champions with their rein work score of 224.5 and fence work score of 229, which made for a total 453.5.


Todd Crawford was draw four in a 16-horse Open Bridle Spectacular cow work field. He ignited the arena with a textbook, and thrilling, fence run, then waited to see if his 146 on the cow would keep him atop the class. When the final whistle blew, Crawford and Jerry Smoke (Dual R Smokin x Kool Arista Cat x Cats Merada), owned and bred by J Five Horse Ranch Management, marked a 435 (R:144/H:145/C:146) to earn the title and $2,940 at the Dom Conicelli Memorial Eastern Derby.
