The curtain rose today on the Euro 205,200-Added DeNiroBootCo 2023 IRHA/IRHBA/NRHA Derby open to 4-, 5-, 6-, 7-, and 8-year-old horses. The new layout, built under the guidance of Event Director and TFY Executive Director Giancarlo Doardo at CremonaFiere in Cremona, Italy, welcomed close to 450 horses, and over 300 horses entered in the Derby.
Featuring the inaugural Euro100,000-Added IRHBA Derby for horses enrolled in the IRHBA (International Reining Horse Breeders Association) incentive program, the IRHA/IRHBA alliance has already reaped its first fruits.
DeNiroBootsCo Non Pro Derby – First Go/First Section
Opening the dances on the first day of competition was the first section of the Non Pro qualifier where two young European riders set the pace of the event: Italian Vittorio De Iulio and Sára Karásova of the Czech Republic.
Sára Karásova & KH Yankee Step
Karásova and her faithful 8-year-old mount KH Yankee Step (NRHA Million Dollar Sire Rowdy Yankee x Step A Little Closer), bred by Franz Lechner, raised and held the bar posting a 218 early in the draw to lead the Level (L)4 division; her score held until De Iulio and Mr Magic Chex (ARC Magic Enterprise x Miss America Chex) rode to a 219 to lead the L4 and L3 divisions of both the IRHA and IRHBA Derby. The 6-year-old stallion is owned by Fabio De Iulio and was bred by Angelucci Quarter Horses.
Germany’s Georgia Wilk aboard her 6-year-old mare Pretty Whiz Chic (Winnie the Boo x Rey Nic Chic), bred by Jessica Dros, and Italy’s Filippo Milani, with Alessandro Milani’s PL What A Woman (What A Wave x Donnola Chex), a 5-year-old stallion bred by Luigi Parise, tied to lead the L2 division in both the IRHA and IRHBA Derby with a 214.5. Milani is currently also leading the L1.
The second section of the Non Pro Derby qualifier will take place on Wednesday 29 followed by the first section of the Open Derby qualifier.
