Peter DeFreitas Joins NRHA’s Million Dollar Rider Club

The National Reining Horse Association is thrilled to announce that Peter DeFreitas of Whitesboro, Texas, has officially become the association’s newest Million Dollar Rider. DeFreitas crossed this career milestone following his performance at the 2025 NRHA Futurity®. DeFretias only needed to make one horse back to the level 4 finals to cross this prestigious milestone – but he capitalized on the opportunity, splitting 8th in the Level 4 Open Futurity Finals with a 223.5 on One Mighty Gunner (Gunner Dun It Again x One Mighty Aphrodite) owned, bred and nominated by Double Run Farm, in the Open Finals to take home a check of $55,725.

DeFreitas has built his career in partnership with outstanding horses from Double Run Farm, piloting them to success across some of reining’s most prestigious events. His consistency and horsemanship have been evident across every major arena, highlighted by multiple finals, championships, and six-figure earners.

Notable highlights of DeFreitas’ career include:
• 2025 100X Reining Classic – 4-Year-Old Stakes: Open L4 3rd place aboard Warrior Mask (Colonels Shining Gun x Conquistadors Sandy), owned, bred, and nominated by Double Run Farm, earning $19,401.57 toward LTE $36,135.56.
• 2025 100X Reining Classic Invitational Futurity: Open L4 finalist with One Mighty Gunner (Gunner Dun It Again x One Mighty Aphrodite), owned, bred, and nominated by Double Run Farm, earning $10,006.19.
• 2025 National Reining Breeders Classic L4 Open Reserve Champion t: Finalist aboard Dust Off Ya Gunns (Gunnatrashya x One Mighty Aphrodite), owned, bred, and nominated by Double Run Farm, adding $14,000 to their LTE of $175,052.61—all earned with DeFreitas at the reins.
• 2024 NRHA Futurity L4 Open: Placed aboard Warrior Mask, adding $11,523.77.
• 2024 National Reining Breeders Classic L4 Opent: Reserve Champion on Dust Off Ya Gunns, earning $52,500.
From Futurity arenas to Derby finals, DeFreitas has proven himself as a consistent force at the top levels of competition, and his new Million Dollar Rider status reflects both his dedication and his long-standing partnerships with the horses of Double Run Farm.
