During the 2026 6666 NRHA Derby® presented by Markel, the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) recognized Magnum Chic Dream as the recipient of the 2025 Peter Phinny Memorial Leading Futurity Sire Award. The award was accepted on behalf of the stallion by owner, Viola Scott.
Established in 2021, the Peter Phinny Memorial Leading Futurity Sire Award recognizes the leading sire from the previous year’s NRHA Futurity based on the total earnings of his offspring. Named in honor of longtime NRHA member and breeder Peter Phinny, the award celebrates excellence in breeding and the lasting influence of stallions whose offspring excel on reining’s biggest stage.
At the 2025 NRHA Futurity®, Magnum Chic Dream offspring earned a combined $484,117, led by Belissimo (Magnum Chic Dream x Americasnextgunmodel), ridden by Casey Deary for owner, breeder and nominator Arcese Quarter Horses USA, who captured the Level 4 Open Futurity Championship and a paycheck of $350,000.
Also contributing to the stallion’s impressive total was Nyourwildestdreams (Magnum Chic Dream x Gunna Be Custom), owned by Jose Fernando Fagundes, bred and nominated by Devin Warren and shown by Maria Luiza Michelin Fagundes. The standout mare earned $68,790 after claiming the Non Pro Level 3 Co-Championship, Non Pro Level 2 Co-Championship, Non Pro Level 1 Co-Championship, and top placings in three NRHA Futurity Challenge divisions.
Additional money earners included Ima Dreamin Jeannie (Magnum Chic Dream x Gunnawinya Jac), bred and nominated by Hill Country Reiners, LLC and ridden by Ruben Vandorp for owner Laurie E. Hauck, who tied for eighth in the Level 4 Open Futurity to earn $55,723; Amaze In Grace (Magnum Chic Dream x Miss Sugar Whiz), nominated by Lawrence Ranch, shown by Rodrigo Nieves for owner and breeder Christian Asis, who split eighth in the Level 2 Open Futurity for $9,248. The Peter Phinny Memorial Leading Futurity Sire Award is presented annually during the NRHA Derby. The perpetual Mehl Lawson Bronze representing the award remains on display at NRHA headquarters in Oklahoma City, serving as a lasting tribute to Peter Phinny’s passion for breeding and his enduring contributions to the reining industry.
